Rabasi Joss - New Website + Social Media Coming Soon

Growing up in the Washington DC area on equal parts 90s R&B and 60s folk music, with a passion for blues, jazz, soul and New Orleans funk, Joss' influences include Bonnie Raitt, Bill Withers, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Woody Guthrie, Mississippi John Hurt, Erykah Badu, Ani DiFranco, Prince, Ella Fitzgerald, Mariah Carey, Sade, Lizz Wright, Greg Brown, Pura Fe, Tricky, and the Meters. Her sound is a Mid-Atlantic blend of folk, jazz, country, R&B, blues, hip-hop and soul.  Joss has been invited to open for Richie Havens and the Persuasions, and has performed at venues including the Blue Note (NYC), Bitter End (NYC), Living Room (NYC), Cats Cradle (NC), the Cave (NC), and Jammin Java (VA). Projects feature beatbox artist Baba Israel (Soul Inscribed/Open Thought Music), award-winning playwright Eve Ensler, (The Vagina Monologues) and photography by Emma Dodge Hanson, (Shawn Colvin, Sarah McLaughlin, Ani DiFranco). She appears in the 2011 Carolina Chocolate Drops video “Country Girl”. She is currently finishing a new full-length album (recorded at the GRAMMY-winning Magic Shop Studio) due out in 2017.
